Tinder launches ‘relationship goals’ to follow in Hinge’s footsteps

Tinder today launched a new “Relationship Goals” feature that allows users to set their dating goals on their profiles, whether they’re looking for a “long-term partner,” “long-term but ready for the short-term,” “short-term, but open for the short-term.” . “Open to long-term”, “short-term entertainment”, “new friends”, or “don’t understand yet”.
The new addition to Tinder is designed to help users find connections that better match what they’re looking for. Users can go to settings to add relationship goals to their profile. Each option pictured above is accompanied by an emoji and displayed as a colored banner above the “About me” section at the top of your profile. The app will also feature new weekly checks to remind users that they can change their relationship goals if their views on dating change.
This feature is available to users in many countries, including the US, starting today and will be available to everyone on January 5, 2023.
“This feature was developed in response to a change we are seeing among our members. Young single people, who make up the majority on Tinder, are increasingly making informed choices about who they spend time with. In fact, 72% of Tinder members they say we’re looking for people who know them, people who want something,” said Kyle Miller, Tinder’s vice president of core product.
In testing “relationship targeting,” Tinder found that more than 50 percent of users opted to use the option on their profile, the company said in an announcement today.
The Match Group, which owns Tinder, launched a similar profile feature on Hinge earlier this year called “Dating Intent,” which allows users to indicate on their profiles what they want in a relationship, such as “life partner,” “long-term relationship,” Long-term, open to short-term, Short-term, open to long-term, Short-term, and Define my dating goals.
Tinder now has the same options, minus “life partner” which has been replaced with “new friends” and “short-term fun” since Tinder is usually for dating and situations. More than half of Tinder’s users are between the ages of 18 and 25, according to Tinder’s 2022 “Year of the Slip” report, and many young people gravitate towards casual dating.
Recently, another match group dating app, Hinge, launched a “relationship type” feature that allows users to add “monogamous”, “non-monogamous”, or “define my relationship type” to their profile. It’s not yet clear if Tinder plans to implement a similar feature. However, it can help non-monogamous users find like-minded people on more traditional dating apps that prefer monogamous dating.
