WOOLRICH — Following a manhunt, Zachariah James Baney was arrested and charged with burglary, trespassing, theft, receiving stolen property and driving while his license was suspended and DUI-related counts.
The arrest occurred on June 28 when Baney, who did not have an address listed, broke into an occupied home and attempted to gain access to multiple vehicles.
On June 28, Baney was observed driving a light green Ford Focus in the 2200 block of Woodward Avenue, according to a report filed by Pine Creek Township Police.
Police said Benny was seen parked, got out of the car, took off his shirt, and ran around several houses.
Baney then entered a residence occupied by the owner who was on the phone at her upstairs office, police said.
The homeowner heard the door to her residence being opened and closed and called for help. When she came downstairs, she found her cupboard door was open, her refrigerator and stove were on, and the dresser drawer was pulled out.
“Baney fled the residence before officers arrived and was seen driving on Interstate 150 toward Lock Haven,” the police report said.
A neighbor told police that Penny ran to their home after leaving the first one and grabbed a bottle of barbecue sauce he stole from the home.
A few minutes later, Penny was seen in Lock Haven trying to get into several cars and then returning to his car, police said.
Benny drove south to Interstate 220, where the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department observed him.Police said officers tried to pull him over, but Benny continued to drive until he came to a cul-de-sac in the town of Lamar.
Benny was detained and arraigned before District Judge Keith Keebler.Police said bail was set at $100,000 and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for a later date.
