Local Spotlight: Milton and Warrior Run Women’s Soccer Teams Win Regional Openings | News, sports, work

Milton opened the Division 4 Division AA tournament with a convincing 4-0 victory over Williamson in women’s football on Monday night. With the win, the Panthers will take on Montusville in the semi-finals at Loasoca on Wednesday night.
Mackenzie Lopez scored twice against Milton, both Cam Rush and Sammy Roarty. Milton beat Williamson 43-7 thanks to assists from Rush, Maddy Zerber and Makela Loreman.
Another first round game in the AA class was Warrior Run’s 1-0 victory over Midwest to advance to the Division 4 quarter-finals. The defender will face the strongest and undefeated team from Central Colombia.
Maura Woland scored the Warrior Run’s only game-winning goal, scoring in the first half. Addy Ohnmeiss scored a goal and made five saves.
• Wellsborough beat Wyalusing 3-0 (25:11, 26:24, 25:13) in the women’s volleyball game. Emily Starkweather leads Wellsboro with six kills. Maddy Bordas had 11 assists, Natalie Cleveland led with 12 and Starkweather had 11.
• Two interceptions helped the Lycoming College Football team to a 42-10 win over Alvern University. Austin Rowley Sr. received his first career Mid-Atlantic League Defensive Player of the Week award.
Raleigh completed two passes and four tackles in a 42–10 win over the Golden Wolves. Raleigh’s first interception, a dive, secured Lycoming’s third touchdown. Senior’s second interception was sent by Alvernia 31 for 40 yards to secure Lycoming’s fourth touchdown.
Raleigh is tied for the league lead in four steals this season. He is second on the team with 49 steals. The four-year-old has nine interceptions and 157 tackles in his career.
Raleigh, MAC’s second quarterback of the season, joined sophomore linebacker Joey Rivituso, who bounced back from two losses and one from Albright on September 26. Awarded after interception.
• Two suspensions set the Lycoming College women’s football team’s single-season suspension record and helped second-year goaltender Abby Gerasimov earn her first MAC Liberty Defense Player of the Week award.
Gerasimov made three saves in the Kings’ October 18 1-0 win on October 18, and made seven saves in a 1-0 elimination game at DeSales University on October 22. 29-year history of the program.
The victory earned Gerasimov his sixth and seventh single disqualification, surpassing Jessica Bennett’s record of six solo disqualifications set in 2004. Meanwhile, the Warriors’ 11 suspensions this year are the best on the show. Gerasimov’s seven suspensions rank second in the conference, behind only FDU-Florum’s Erika Blackburn.
Bucknell freshman quarterback Megan White won the Patriot League’s Rookie of the Week award for the second consecutive time, playing the full 90 minutes in a scoreless game against ARMYs at Emmett Field on Saturday.
The Bison and the Black Knights are tied for first place in the Patriot League and are fighting defensively. White, who started all 16 games at left back this season, was part of the back four that helped the Army Men off the table for the third time this season.
The suspension was Bucknell’s ninth game of the season, and the Bison are second in the league in goals scored with a 0.81 average.
Penn Jr. Kalynn Schitz was named Offensive Player of the Week at United East Women’s Football Week.
Schitz had a historic win as her offensive performances earned her her third Sportsman of the Week title and her only win of the game for the Wildcats. The teenager scored four goals, including a first-half hat-trick, against Penn State Abington on Saturday. Her four points brought her season total to 16, breaking Penn’s single-season record and putting her in first place in the league.
• The Patriot League honored two of Bucknell’s freshmen on Monday, with Charlie Holmes named Rookie of the Week and Freddie Lappworth named Goaltender of the Week.
The Bison had two strong performances last week, a 2-1 loss to fourth-place Syracuse, and then a 1-1 draw against Colgate, then third in the Patriot League.
In the second half, “Bizon” caught up with the red-hot “Orange”, and Holmes and Lapworth played in the lead. The first goal of Sherlock Holmes’ career was an instant goal that equalized 12 minutes after Syracuse had scored just four minutes earlier. Holmes’ first touch was good, converting a pass from Eddie Pérez-Peles before he blocked a defender at the post to create space for a curling shot to the right post and inside. That goal came from Syracuse, who rank fifth in the nation in goals scored, averaging just 0.50 per game.
• For the second time in three weeks, Lock Haven’s Brinley Pinshenath beat VCU in women’s hockey to win the Atlantic 10′s Rookie of the Week award.
The Balds freshman scored her third goal of the season early in the fourth quarter of a tight 1-1 road game with VCU to give Lock Haven an A-10 win over an important Rams win. Pinchenat won the game with the help of Amy Stevens and she now has seven points in total with three goals and one assist in her rookie season.
Pinschenat and the Bald Eagles will return to action on Friday (October 28) when The Haven travels to Massachusetts. This game ended the A-10 Bald Eagles schedule and was scheduled to start at 3:00 pm. Lock Haven nearly secured a Western Conference playoff spot, but Friday’s game still has a big impact on both sides’ seedings.
