Greenville: Northern health system gives out free gun locks

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, gun violence is the leading cause of death among children and teens in the United States.
More than a third of accidental shootings involving children have occurred in other people’s homes, officials said.
“Kids are naturally curious and that’s one of the things we’ve found, a lot of times families might think kids don’t know where guns are in the home, but some studies show that over 70 percent of kids know where guns are stored in the home, so Talking honestly about firearms with kids is very important,” said Bridget Watson, program coordinator at Safe Kids Upstate and the Bradshaw Institute.”We stress to parents how important it is to be a responsible gun owner and ensure their belongings are locked in their homes.
In addition to gun locks, officials also recommend removing and locking firearms in a cabinet or storage bin and locking cartridges away from the gun.
